And the Oscar Goes to... Both of You! 7 Hollywood Power Couples With Matching Trophies
Explaining the sheer adrenaline of winning an Academy Award to your partner must be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, for these famous pairs, they don't have to—they’ve already got a matching gold man sitting on the mantelpiece.
Whether they fell in love on set or conquered Tinseltown side-by-side, these seven couples (past and present) have turned their homes into the most intimidating dinner party venues in history.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
This pair has been married for over a quarter of a century, but they’ve always shared their home with a guest named Oscar. Michael landed his first win as a producer for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1976) before snagging Best Actor for Wall Street (1988). Not to be outdone, Catherine joined the winners' club in 2003 for her show-stopping turn in the musical Chicago.
Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh
The original "it" couple of Hollywood’s golden age, these two were acting royalty. Olivier won big in 1949 for Hamlet, while Vivien Leigh remains one of the few to have a 100% strike rate: two nominations, two wins—for Gone with the Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz
Spain’s most famous exports met on set in 1992, reconnected 15 years later, and tied the knot in 2010. They made history as the only Spanish-born actors to win: Javier for his terrifying role in No Country for Old Men and Penélope for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez
You might not recognize them in the supermarket, but if you’ve had "Let It Go" stuck in your head for a decade, you know their work. This husband-and-wife duo won for the Frozen anthem in 2014 and followed it up with another win for Coco’s "Remember Me" in 2018.
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
When these two married in 1958, it was a lucky year for Joanne—she won Best Actress for The Three Faces of Eve just as they started their life together. Paul had to wait a bit longer, finally taking home the Best Actor trophy for The Color of Money in 1986, alongside two honorary Oscars for being a flat-out legend.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Even though "Brangelina" is now a thing of the past, their joint trophy cabinet was legendary. Angelina won for Girl, Interrupted (2000), while Brad has a pair: one as a producer for 12 Years a Slave (2014) and another for his acting in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2020).
Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli
The ultimate showbiz family. Judy Garland was awarded a "mini-Oscar" at just 17 for The Wizard of Oz, while her director husband, Vincente, won for Gigi in 1958. The talent clearly rubbed off—their daughter, Liza Minnelli, won her own Oscar for Cabaret in 1972, making them the only "all-winner" family on our list.
