A Night of Glitz and Cracking Films: The 2026 Golden Globes
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards, held this past Sunday, 11th January, turned out to be one of the most star-packed and surprising nights Hollywood has seen in ages. Hosted by the quick-witted comedian Nikki Glaser at the Beverly Hilton, the ceremony kicked off what looks set to be a really exciting Oscars race.
The Big Film Winners
The night was basically a showdown between two completely different films: the Shakespeare drama Hamnet and the offbeat, star-studded One Battle After Another.
Best Film (Drama): In a bit of a shock, Hamnet—a touching story about William Shakespeare's family—nabbed the top prize. Its lead, Jessie Buckley, also scooped Best Actress, cementing her reputation as a British acting powerhouse.
Best Film (Musical or Comedy): The big winner of the night was One Battle After Another. Not only did it win the main comedy award, but Paul Thomas Anderson also walked away with both Director and Screenplay gongs.
A Record-Breaking Win for Timothée: Perhaps the loudest cheer of the night went to Timothée Chalamet. He won Best Actor (Comedy) for Marty Supreme, making him the youngest actor ever to win in that category. He even gave a cheeky shout-out to his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, in his speech.
Telly and New Frontiers
The small screen had plenty to celebrate as well. The medical drama The Pitt and the meta-comedy The Studio (starring Seth Rogen) were the big winners in the TV categories.
Interestingly, the Globes brought in a brand-new category this year: Best Podcast. The first-ever trophy went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler, showing that the awards are finally catching up with the times and recognising digital creators alongside film stars.
The British Talent
It was a brilliant night for talent from our side of the Atlantic. Along with Jessie Buckley's big win, Stephen Graham reminded everyone why he's one of the best around by winning Best Actor in a Limited Series for Adolescence.

Final Thoughts
The 2026 Golden Globes felt like Hollywood getting back to its best. Whilst the speeches were modest and focused on the "craft" of acting, there was still enough red-carpet glamour and gossip to keep everyone chatting. With Hamnet and One Battle After Another leading the charge, all eyes are now on the BAFTAs and the Oscars to see if they can do it again.
